The 10-Figurine Challenge

Sculptures in progress

In November 2020, Quincey was spending HOURS every day cruising Pinterest, looking at the works of artists from around the world and across time periods. She got so inspired that she gave herself a challenge: create 10 blank figurines in 5 hours and see how different she could make them look.

So, the “blanks” you see above are the beginning of that challenge.

The figures are made of clay slabs, shaped over plastic Sprite bottles which were shoved into shaped sleeves which Quincey sewed. (The fabric was used to make it easy to remove the bottles, once the clay had dried a bit.) The bottles were place on wooden stakes attached to the board, so she could store them together as she worked. Speed was another challenge she set for herself: she allowed herself only 1 day to complete each figure’s face, headgear, and texture!

Once each figure was bisque-fired, she gave herself only 1 day to paint each one.
